When playing in the 1st leg of their Champions League last-16 tie game against PSG, the Premier League side Chelsea was the team that clearly struggled most in the match. Chelsea launched a total of 2 shots in the entire match meanwhile PSG launched 14 different times. When the match was over, Jose Mourinho admitted in saying that Chelsea deserved to lose as they didn’t perform good enough to deserve what the final scoreboard displayed which was a 1-1 draw.
This result is a huge advantage for Chelsea as they currently have an advantage over PSG as the header that was scored by Ivanovic was netted in the Parc des Princes, in the home turf of the French team and now PSG are obliged to score at least one goal in the upcoming 2nd leg match.
Even though this result has placed Chelsea in a very comfortable spot, there was something that occurred even before the matchhad started which has everyone talking about and it’s not about the undeserved advantage of Chelsea, it’s about the act of racism that was displayed by fans of Chelsea.
There is a video that has already become viral which displays Chelsea fans not allowing a commuter enter the train and fans were even shouting: “We’re racist and that’s the way we like it’’
Rio Ferdinand spoke his mind about the incident that occurred a few days ago as the former captain of England posted on social media:
‘’The racist scene on the metro with the Chelsea fans-disgraceful behavior obviously. But can football change this? Does it have the power?Does football want to change this? Do the people in the game that hold the power really want to put the hard yards in to eradicate racism?Football has come a long way since the 70’s & 80’s but are we all guilty of becoming a bit complacent?’Football has done a lot over the years to combat racism..but society has to do more to make change or is there too much hatred in society?’’ Rio Ferdinand said as he expressed his disgust about the racial incident using social media.
After watching the video which displays this racial act, Chelsea has already managed to identify some of the fans involved in this incident and have banned 3 of them from entering Stamford Bridge while a few others are being investigated further but they could be arrested.
